Reporting safety

Workers need to know how they can report safety risks and they need to believe that their manager will do something about it.

Reporting procedures help you to obtain information about manual handling issues in the workplace, identify problems when they arise and address them. Proper reporting makes it easier to prevent recurrences of incidents and injuries.

Reporting and investigating incidents and injuries assists you to:
  • understand why they occurred
  • make decisions and set priorities
  • analyse trends in safety issues
  • identify hazards and risks that were previously unnoticed develop new safe work procedures or prevention strategies.

Workers have an obligation to their employer to report safety risks. Employers have an obligation to take these reports seriously.
