In controlling manual handling risks it is important that you follow the risk assessment process, including consulting with your workers and using the hierarchy of controls when determining solutions to your manual handling problems.
In undertaking a risk assessment refer to the factors outlined in clause 81 of the OHS Regulation. The Manual handling risk guide provides worksheets and templates to help you assess manual handling issues in your workplace.
The figures quoted in these pages refer to "serious injuries" only. A serious injury is defined as one that causes death or permanent disability or that causes workers to have more than five days off work.
